You want crazy? I'll give you crazy. Check this out: ten per cent of the registrants for the Laser and Radial fleets at the Miami OCR are from District 3. That's right, ten per cent.
I don't know what the other districts can claim. There might be as many from Florida, or somewhere else close, but TEN PER CENT are from D3. Frankly, I'm proud.
In number, there are 20 competitors. Here they are:
Laser
- David Wright
- Rob Davis
- Vaughn Harrison
- Nic Kim
- Sam Fuller
- Rob Hemming
- Mathew Ryder
- Evert McLaughlin
- Kyle Dakin
- Chris Dold
- Lee Parkhill
- Tom Ramshaw
- Greg Clunies
Radial
- Brenda Bowskill
- Olga Koubrak
- Clair Merry
- Ingrid Merry
- Samantha Rea
- Emily Searle
- Maura Dewey
After the first day, which started late and ended in the dark, D3er Chris Dold won his fleet while Rob Davis came in as D3er number two.
Nic Kim says the winds were from five to 15 knots. Ari Barshi, a Master from the Dominican Republic says the starts were so tight you couldn't fit a piece of paper between the boats as they stacked up to the gun. "No room for mistakes," he says. "Every one said afterwards it was not right or left, but finding a lane and going fast. That's it."
