EYC Throws Down the Gauntlet

Inspired by Nik Kim's report in the last D3 newsletter, two sailors from EYC, Kenneth and Konrad Davey, felt there was no other option but to join the madness, grab the blades and go sailing. Says Ken Davy, "With the weather forecasting perfection for the beginning of March, my son Konrad and I threw our Lasers in the water and sailed for about an hour." The winds were out of the west, rising at times to 10 knots. The 8C temps and bright sun made for some easy sailing.

If the weather holds, the Davys expect more practice days before the end of the month. "Maybe D3 sailors should start thinking about a March regatta. Bring on the coffee!" says Davy.

Davy may get a taker for his March challenge from the other end of the GTA. Master Joe Van Rossem found a patch of water between the ice flows in Ajax and took advantage. "I went down to the Rats but it was still iced in," he reports. Undaunted, Van Rossem launched nearer to his home and also got about an hour of sailing on Lake Ontario in what turned out to be very similar conditions to those in Etobicoke.
