ILCA-NA Laser District 3
Flat Water Freeze Out - Guelph Ontario

Guelph Lake was at its best and worst for the third annual Flat Water Freeze Out Laser Regatta. The winds were westerlies and anywhere from 5 to 15 knots. Huge shifts were the order of the day. It was tough sailing but well handled by the ten boats from Guelph, London and Toronto that took part.

Brad Biskaborn from FYC (Fanshawe Yacht Club, London) has owned this regatta and this year was no exception. He won five of the seven races held and threw out a third for a total of 7 points. Rick Goldt, also of FYC, was consistent all day to earn a 16-point second place. He and Brad were also the only two sailors that didn't sample the chilly waters of Guelph Lake as there was no shortage of thrills and spills. Speaking of thrills, Brad Biskaborn won the prize for demonstrating how close one can get to capsizing a Laser downwind without actually doing so.

Third place went to Jens Biskaborn of FYC with 20 points. The only other bullets were by D3 website designer extraordinaire Kevin Biskaborn who ended up fifth with 24 points and local Harri Palm, who ended up fourth with 22 points. Race committee Gary Goodman, Mike Weiss and Molly Kurvink did a fine job of getting off the seven races in challenging conditions.
