The regatta was held by Brant Beach Yacht Club located in Brant Beach, New Jersey. I came to the regatta three days early to train with Olga Koubrak and Ryan Belfrage. What we found in the days of training was that no matter where the wind came it was usually puffy and there was lots of seaweed. During the regatta the wind came from the opposite direction (except for the last day); there was less seaweed but it was puffier than the training days.
There was a total of 104 full rigs, 142 radials and 26 4.7s registered for the regatta. The race committee decided to make all of the full rigs race together while splitting the radials into 4 fleets to compete in a round robin. The round robin worked by racing two fleets together for duration of a day. I was put in the tangerine fleet which is awesome because tangerines are delicious and orange is my favourite colour.
Isaac Bussin is a member of RCYC high performance team where he sails the laser radial. In 2007-2008 and 2008-2009, he won the Nathan Cowan award for Queen's University male skipper of the year.
